Spotify now matches the music's beat to your running pace
Friday, May 22, 2015, 2:50 PM - Nothing makes a runner more happy than stepping off the treadmill to embrace spring. It's time to shed layers, celebrate bare sidewalks and enjoy longer days. Stuck on what music to choose for your run?
Forget about making a jogging playlist, a new app will choose the tunes for you.
Sweden based company Spotify recently introduced a new user experience specifically designed for runners. Through hardware such as accelerometers in smartphones, the app is able to browse through the user’s listening history and preferences to find the perfect song for the runner’s pace.
Spotify is a commercial music streaming, podcast and video service that provides digital rights management-restricted content from record labels and media companies including BBC, Sony, EMI, Warner Music Group, and Universal. Music can be browsed or searched by artist, album, genre, playlist, or record label.
The running feature will first be released in the United States, UK, Germany and Sweden. Eventually the company plans to expand to other markets.
“Music is the perfect running companion but sometimes you need even more motivation to push on. That’s why Spotify Running is all about helping you go the extra mile,” Spotify’s news release reads. “Start running and Spotify will detect your tempo, matching the perfect music in time to your step – making you a harder, better, faster, stronger runner.”
The company is expected to partner with Nike and RunKeeper to merge Spotify’s streaming music with both highly popular fitness apps.
