Remembering the deadly fog of 1999

Wednesday, September 3, 2014, 9:09 AM - It has been 15 years but for many the memories are clear as yesterday.

On September 3, 1999, drivers on the 401 near Windsor suddenly disappeared into a wall of fog.

The morning had started with blue skies. No fog forecast was in place for the area. In fact the whole incident revealed a malfunction at the Windsor Airport Observation Station.

People at the scene remember that day, explaining they could hear the chaos but were unable to see anything.

The freak accident led to the death of eight people and injured 45 more. More than 87 cars were involved in what was one of the worst pile-ups in Canadian history.
