Rare 'rain bomb' spotted over Arizona

Tuesday, August 25, 2015, 7:37 PM - An incredible time lapse film recently uploaded to YouTube features a rare 'rain bomb' -- or a wet microburst -- over Arizona.
The footage was captured on August 8 during an intense thunderstorm over Tucson.
Microbursts aren't uncommon. They occur when a column of air sinks rapidly during a thunderstorm.
When the air makes contact with the ground it pushes out strong winds, sometimes well in excess of 100 kilometres per hour.

A microburst can cause significant damage and is sometimes mistaken for a tornado.
Wet microbursts, or 'rain bombs' are rare and are accompanied by precipitation.
