FREEZING RAIN WARNINGS

Freezing rain largely ended in Quebec early Friday, but downpours will follow the province into the weekend, with widespread rainfall warnings are in effect.

"Additional rainfall amounts of 15 to 30 millimetres is expected over western and central Quebec by midday Saturday. This will add up to the 30 to 50 millimetres of rain that has already fallen since last night," Environment Canada says. "Over Eastern Quebec, rainfall amounts of 25 to 50 millimetres is expected by Saturday evening except over the Lower North Shore, where 50 to 75 millimetres are expected by Sunday morning."

These amounts could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas, and travellers should be wary.

TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW FREEZING AGAIN

By Saturday, the system will be slowly departing with colder air arriving behind the low. Daytime highs will peak early Saturday morning and will continue to fall throughout the day. That means we can expect snow and mixing on the back end of this storm for most southern regions.

"You really want to pay attention to this forecast because precipitation types will be changing if you are doing any traveling on the roads," Weather Network meteorologist Kelly Sonnenburg says.

During the transition from rain to snow Friday night, a band of freezing rain and ice pellets are possible through western Quebec.

"Light snow is expected through southern Quebec on Saturday with heavier amounts continuing to fall in far northern parts of the province," Sonnenburg says.
