Tuesday, October 17, 2017, 5:02 PM - Three gargantuan pumpkins were dropped from a 40-metre crane Sunday in Saskatoon, Sask., all in the name of charity.
Several local businesses collaborated to raise funds for the Saskatoon Firefighters Pediatric Fund. The "Huge Pumpkin Drop" was held at the Black Fox Farm and Distillery.
One of the pumpkins weighed over 1,300 pounds (600 kilograms). It was released by the crane onto a Nissan Maxima that was donated by Saskatchewan Government Insurance, CBC reports.
Another pumpkin was filled with ping pong balls that were sold for five dollars a piece. A grande prize was awarded to the ball that landed closest to a target set up by Moon Lake Gold and Country Club, according to the news agency.
The third pumpkin was filled with candy. As soon as the area was deemed safe by organizers, hordes of children ran onto the field to collect the treats.
In total, over $9,000 was raised.
