  • By end of the week, expect to see lows below minus 20 C accompanied by wind chill values in the -30 C to -35 C range
  • The cold outbreak stems from a cold-air anomaly that set up over Alaska thanks to a ridge of high pressure over frosty Siberia last week
  • Blowing snow advisory remains in effect for parts of southern Manitoba including, the city of Winnipeg
  • Another 2 to 4 cm of snow expected for southern Manitoba, accompanied by winds gusting to 60 km/h
  • Hazardous driving conditions, with reduced visibility in some locations
  • Trans-Canada remains CLOSED from Headingley, Man. to Saskatchewan border (roughly 300 km stretch). Several secondary routes shut down
  • System tracking south of the border brings some light snow to southern Prairies Friday night and Saturday

As frigid temperatures begin, a cold front sweeping down from the north brings strong winds and snow to parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba Wednesday night.

A blowing snow advisory was in effect for Estevan, Sask. and surrounding areas, including Weyburn, Radville, and Milestone Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile in Manitoba, blizzard warnings were in effect for the extreme northeast, with blowing snow advisories in effect for parts of the south, including Brandon. Numerous highways and roads were closed in southern Manitoba as a result of the snow Wednesday evening.
