Sunday, May 28, 2017, 9:30 AM - Alberta and parts of Saskatchewan were lashed with powerful winds this week, topping 100 km/h in some communities Wednesday, and gusty conditions have continued.

Saturday wasn't quite as gusty as Wednesday, but people across the Prairies would still have had to contend with stiff winds, with Estevan, Sask., reporting a gust of 87 km/h.

Weather Network meteorologist Brett Soderholm says gusts Sunday will be in the 60-90 km/h range by the afternoon, and thunderstorms that spark will also be marked by strong winds.

"Thunderstorm risk today across the southern Rockies and immediate foothills of Alberta, in addition to the south Saskatchewan/Manitoba border," Soderholm says.

There's also more rain ahead for parts of the region, particularly Manitoba, whose north will see some 10-20 mm additional, with fewer than 5 mm in the south.

After windy and stormy days, a more pleasant long range beckons.
