Fire and flood: A look at two weather extremes in Canada

Monday, May 14, 2018, 3:40 PM - Residents of southern B.C. are in the midst of what is being called a historic flood. Nearly 3,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes as floodwaters exceed the levels of the flood of 1948 – which had previously been B.C.’s worst flood to date.

Reception centers have been set up in Grand Forks and Midway, B.C. by the Canadian Red Cross. Affected residents are encouraged to register at the nearest center.

Meanwhile, right next door, Alberta is experiencing terrible wildfires northeast of Edmonton in Bruderheim. Fires are only expected to get worse as the warm months continue. Several parts of Alberta are under a fire ban to prevent potential wildfires from spreading.

Take a look below at these two weather extremes happening right next to each other.
