Tuesday, March 28, 2017, 9:26 AM - A southwesterly flow will give way to double-digit temperatures for parts of southern Ontario Tuesday ahead of a late-week system forecasters are eyeing.

Spotty showers will first make their way across part of the region Tuesday, the last of active weather from overnight Monday. High pressure moving in from Manitoba will clear out clouds through the day before another system on the horizon sees a crisp end to the week.

Quick Facts

  • Double-digit temperatures for some in southern Ontario Tuesday
  • Spotty showers possible for shores of Lake Erie and far eastern Ontario from Kingston into southern Quebec
  • Significant system late Thursday into Friday, with soaking rain for the south and heavy snow for Nickel Belt

Areas from Kingston and east into southern Quebec could see some spotty showers through the afternoon, but it should remain dry for the most part across southern Ontario with some cloud cover.

Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham says a "raw" east wind will blow off of Lake Ontario Thursday, and a significant system expected later that day is set to bring soaking rain to the south of the province, and heavy snow for the Nickel Belt.

"Precipitation starts as snow for parts of eastern Ontario, and we will have to closely watch Montreal and especially Ottawa for significant snow before some mixing," Gillham says, adding Quebec is likely to receive heavy snow for Laurentians and Eastern Townships.

Temperatures will dip below seasonal once more by Friday in southern Ontario once the high pressure moves out of the north, bringing a crisp easterly wind to end the work week.
