Snow squalls possible for parts of Ontario. Here's where
Digital Reporter
Thursday, January 12, 2017, 8:08 PM - After Thursday's heavy rain in southern Ontario, some parts of the region are under a snow squall watch.
"Weak lake-effect snow squalls develop east of Georgian Bay overnight, then shift to the southeast of the Great Lakes for the snowbelt region into Friday morning," says The Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern. "Minimal accumulation expected, however, blowing snow could produce reduced visibility, with the strongest winds forecast overnight and into the early morning hours. A few flurries will pass across the southwest of Ontario."
Areas under the watch include: Barrie, Orillia, Bruce Peninsula and Parry Sound.

Meanwhile, a large swath of northern Ontario is under an extreme cold warning with temperatures in the minus thirties, feeling like the minus forties with the wind chill early Friday morning.
"Bulk of the cold air will be placed over northern, central and eastern Ontario into the weekend as an arctic high sinks in, but is modified for areas near the Great Lakes," adds Wenckstern.
Next system arrives Monday
The next system pushes in for Monday night, which will likely begin with snow and some freezing rain, before transitioning to rain for Tuesday.
A wet and mild pattern takes over for much of next week. However, the cold looks to return for the final days of January.
