Holiday weekend hit-and-miss storms continue for Ontario

Sunday, July 2, 2017, 9:01 AM - Rain and thunderstorms put a damper on some Canada Day celebrations in southern Ontario - though many Canadians carried on through the downpours to wish Canada a happy 150th.

As the holiday weekend continues, another round of showers is set to sweep through the region by Sunday evening, as a secondary cold front pushes down from the north.

While it won't be a washout, rumbles of thunder and heavy downpours may interrupt plans once again Sunday.

Forecasters say there will be a risk for isolated severe storms around the shores of Lake Huron and the Bruce Peninsula, as well as the Ottawa Valley.

The main risk with these storms will be heavy downpours and strong, potentially damaging winds.

The good news for anyone disappointed by a rain-out Saturday afternoon is that the morning and at least the early afternoon are expected to be clearer on Sunday, with showers starting to pop up in the early afternoon - likely first appearing over Huron/Perth and the Golden Horseshoe.

The line is expected to move in in earnest by the evening hours, with showers possible anywhere from Windsor to Ottawa by about 9 p.m. Similar to Saturday, the showers will be more hit-and-miss in nature; while some will see intense downpours, others may be passed by entirely.

With the risk for severe weather, however, it's a good idea to keep an eye out for watches and warnings that may be issued.
