Ontarians admit they're NOT ready for winter (or snow)

Thursday, October 27, 2016, 12:11 PM - While it's not a significant mid-winter snowfall, the first accumulating snow in southern Ontario has some residents dreading the season that's looming.

What started as rain across southwestern regions Wednesday night transitioned to wet snow for parts of southern Ontario by Thursday morning. For areas north of the Greater Toronto Area, the snow actually started to accumulate.

"Snow starting to stick," said The Weather Network's Kevin Yarde during Thursday morning's commute. "2 to 5 cm in Barrie and it's not even Halloween!"

A lot of words like "no" and "shocking" and "not ready for this" shortly followed as more areas started to see the snowflakes fly.

Environment Canada issued a widespread special weather statement for the snow with up to 10 cm possible over the highest elevations through the day Thursday, specifically in the Creemore, Flesherton and Shelburne area. Slushy accumulations are expected on some roads as well as the risk for power outages due to brisk easterly winds.

Ready or not, this is just the first sign of what's to come. Here's a look at the first snowfall of the season:
