Canada's winter officially kicked off over the weekend, when the Arctic community of Grise Fiord received a healthy dose of snow.

Now, it appears chilly weather is setting its sights on southern Alberta.

Environment Canada has issued frost warnings for communities in and around Airdrie, Olds, and Rocky Mountain House.

The "first frost of the season is expected" Tuesday evening, the weather agency announced in a statement.

"Clear skies, mixed with overnight temperatures near zero along Alberta's foothills will allow for frost develop Tuesday evening," explains Elena Lappo, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.

"Wednesday's night time low is looking to be a bit warmer, so the frost will likely only last for one evening."
