This part of Canada ranks among coldest on Earth right now

Monday, December 10, 2018, 12:27 PM - Parts of northern Quebec are experiencing some of the coldest air in the northern hemisphere right now as temperatures plunge into the -30s. That's in comparison to places like Russia and even Greenland where temperatures could dip to the -40s by Wednesday morning.

Monday morning lows fell below -30°C in some areas of northern Quebec with La Grande IV Airport and Aupaluk Airport both reporting temperatures around -33°C.
Temperatures will remain as low as the -30s through Wednesday across northern Quebec, putting the region on the map for some of the coldest weather on Earth.
"A decent arctic high is situated right over parts of Greenland with temperatures falling into the -40s on Tuesday and Wednesday morning and not ruling out an isolated -45°C either," says Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton.
And on the other side of the pole, in parts of Russia for example, temperatures into the -40s are expected as well.

"So those are the three pockets on the Northern Hemisphere that will have the coldest temperatures that we can track this week," adds Hamilton.
That pocket of Arctic air in Quebec will be on the move by Wednesday night and into Thursday morning with lows for southern parts of the province including Montreal, Quebec City, Sherbrooke and Trois-Rivieres even dipping to the -20s.
