The famous groundhog in New York predicted an early spring, but it sure doesn't look that way in the state.
Monday morning brought heavy, wet snow as temperatures plummeted during the predawn hours.
By 10 a.m. local time, LaGuardia Airport recorded 13.9 cm, the highest April snowfall in 36 years, according to the Washington Post. The previous record was set on April 6, 1982 when 24.3 cm fell.
At one point during Monday morning, the airport reported a snowfall rate of 5 cm per hour. On average, the city typically receives about 1.5 cm for the entire month.
