New viral video features piranhas at feeding time in Brazil

Monday, March 23, 2015, 7:46 PM - One of YouTube's latest hits comes to us from Brazil, and it features a group of hungry piranhas at feeding time.

At the start of the video, the water looks calm -- but just wait until someone throws in a piece of meat. And then another.

And then another.

The water practically explodes with fish clamoring to get a bite to eat.

While the video is terrifying, swimmers in the area have nothing to worry about. Contrary to what the video may suggest, piranhas are relatively harmless -- if you're human.

While fishermen do occasionally get bitten the fish tend to steer clear of people, the National Geographic reports.

Animal experts suspect the fish in the video commune in the area because they're regularly fed.

At any rate -- this video is a viral hit. Since it was uploaded to YouTube on March 13, it has racked up more than 6 million views.
