Friday, February 20, 2015, 5:12 PM - NASA's Terra satellite shows what weeks of frigid temperatures have done to the landscape of the eastern U.S.
The above image was captured Friday, following widespread cold from Illinois to western Virginia Thursday night.
"The snow cover combined with the frosty air mass made the eastern U.S. feel like the inside of freezer," NASA noted in a statement.
Several cold records were broken across the U.S. Thursday and Friday.

Among the most notable was Charlotte, North Carolina, which saw an overnight low of -13C, replacing the record of -10C set back in 1876.
There doesn't appear to be an end to the deep freeze that's settled into parts of Canada and the U.S.
Long range models suggest the chilly conditions will hang around through the end of the month and possibly into early March.
