A fishy situation in Los Angeles has left authorities scratching their heads and nearby residents covering their noses.

Thousands of dead fish rose to the surface of the water Saturday evening in Marina Del Rey near Ballona Creek, and it is not clear why.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the first report came in around 9 p.m. at the A-Basin located at 13000 block of Tahiti Way.

Officials tell NBC that it is not immediately known what caused the fish to die off, but say low oxygen levels may have been the issue.
