Mid-week will feel like September in southern Ontario; Warm-up for the weekend

Monday, July 14, 2014, 10:26 AM - Our 7-day forecast shows a threat for showers each day from today through Thursday.

EXTENDED ACTIVE WEATHER COVERAGE: Tune in to The Weather Network for live updates on the summer storms in your area. Our team of reporters and meteorologists in the field provide you with the most accurate and up-to-date coverage.

However, this week is by no means a washout as most of the time it will not be raining. Each day through Thursday will bring a mixture of clouds and sun, along with occasional passing showers. The most widespread rain this week will be Monday into Tuesday morning.

The big story for Tuesday through Thursday will be the temperatures which will feel more like early to mid-September rather than the middle of July.

TUNE IN: We'll have the latest on this pattern change on TV and here on our website.

In cottage country, we will see a couple of days with high temperatures struggling to reach 20ºC and overnight lows in the single digits.

However, once again Friday will feature the nicest weather of the week with full sunshine and high temperatures warming back to the mid 20s.

At this point the weekend also looks great with a mixture of sun and clouds and near seasonal temperatures. However, we will have a rather close call with a system that we expect will track just to our south. Some of the models used for forecasting bring the rain and thunderstorms associated with that system into Southern Ontario. We will continue to monitor that potential as we get closer to the weekend, so please check back for updates.

Looking further ahead at the rest of July and into early August, we continue to note the lack of any extended periods of hot weather in the long range forecast. The map below shows forecast model guidance for the final two weeks of July. Regions shaded in blue (including all of southern Ontario) are forecast to average out between one and three degrees below seasonal.

However, keep in mind that during July our average high is near 27ºC, so we can still see very enjoyable weather conditions with temperatures that are below seasonal. We will also see occasional days that are warmer, but at this point we do not see any potential to have several days with temperatures at or above 30ºC.
