The Michigan State Police released this dashcam footage of the incident on Twitter that they described as a “Christmas miracle”.

DEER COLLISIONS COMMON THIS TIME OF YEAR

For deer, mating season begins when temperatures start to drop. That makes them more likely to cross busy roads, and they often travel in groups.

"You need to be very careful," OPP Const. Janice Sawbridge told the CBC in 2016.

"A deer is quite a large animal, and it can come through a windshield. So that can be a life-threatening injury -- or even a fatal collision."

If driving through a rural area at night, experts advise keeping an eye on ditches for movement.

Pay attention for glowing eyes and, if you see an animal, slow down and honk your horn in a series of short bursts.
