According to Reuters, industrial excavators cleared rubble at the scene, while workers searched for survivors.
Authorities say that heavy rain is responsible for the landslides, with light showers expected to continue during Sunday's search. Despite the danger of more landslides, Xinhua reports, the search operation involves more than 3000 people. Geologists told the publication that the chances of finding survivors under the rubble were slim.
Wu Youheng, who lives in a neighbouring village, told Xinhua that though the region is prone to landslides, Saturday's was unprecedented in scale.
