Massachusetts ski resort closes down due to wintry weather

Tuesday, February 17, 2015, 5:18 PM - Snow continues to fall in Massachusetts, prompting numerous closures and delays. On Saturday, the unprecedented storms  forced the closure of the Great Brook Cross Country Ski Touring Center in Carlisle, Massachusetts due to cold, wind and an overabundance of snow in the parking lot.

"Today's snow storm will keep us closed at least until noon, if not all day," the resort posted on Facebook Saturday.

That was followed up Sunday with another closure.

"Weather conditions (wind and cold temperatures) will keep us closed this afternoon. And the parking lot will not be plowed today. We expect to open late on Monday morning at 11:00 with all trails groomed and parking lot plowed. Hope to see you then!"

The resort was re-opened Monday with groomed trails, although drifting snow did impact some of the runs.

By Tuesday things appeared to be back to normal, with night skiing back on the schedule.

Massachusetts has been hit with record-breaking snow over the past three weeks, with close to 200 cm on the ground in some places so far.

Authorities have overspent their snow removal budget by double and are working around the clock to keep snow off city streets.

The National Weather Service in the U.S. is calling for an additional 2-7 cm of accumulation Tuesday.
