Friday, May 23, 2014, 5:15 PM - Foresta the pigeon disappeared from her home in Montana Tuesday but was reunited when it showed up at the school of her fifth-grade owner Tara Atkins, some 8 km away in the city of Helena.
What makes the story even more remarkable is the fact that Foresta had never been to Helena before.
Tara's mom told the Associated Press they adopted Foresta as a baby and she "just hangs out at home".
The bird caused quite the commotion when it arrived at Tara's school by landing on a teacher's head.
Tara recognized the bird immediately die to its "distinct colouration" and a blue band around her leg.
A fellow student eventually caught the bird by throwing a blanket over it.
Tara's mom says she has no idea how the bird ended up at the school.
