Friday, February 27, 2015, 7:30 PM - It's been a tough winter for much of Canada and the U.S., with record-breaking snowfall and a deep freeze that remains firmly in place.

One region that doesn't appear to be impacted by an abundance of winter weather is Alaska, which saw a high of 4C in the city of Anchorage Tuesday (seasonal is -1 degrees Celsius).

While Massachusetts grapples with where to put the more than 150 cm of snow, Alaska appears to be short on wintry weather.

According to Alaska Dispatch News, the Anchorage Fur Rendezvous World Championship Sled Dog Races had to be cancelled this year due to a lack of snow -- and the Iditarod trail sled dog race had to be moved more than 100 km north.

A cross-country ski marathon was also put on hold.

It rained in the city of Fairbanks over the weekend which -- according to local forecasters -- is incredibly rare. The average temperature in the city in February is usually -18C, but this year the area hit a daily high of 1C -- 19 degrees above seasonal.

Forecasters say the strange weather in Canada and the U.S. has to do with an unusual set up of the jet stream.
