A developing low pressure system approaching from the south will cross eastern Newfoundland on Thursday.
"And then it will rapidly intensify as it moves off the northeast coast Thursday night," says Environment Canada.
Rain currently affecting PEI & NS is on its way out; will be into Newfoundland later today. Strong westerly winds develop for Nfld this eve.

Rain ahead of this system began over eastern Newfoundland on Wednesday and is expected to persist through Friday.
The bigger story however, will be the winds, with strong westerly gusts expected across the province into Friday.
"Winds will start to pick up Thursday night with gusts over 100 km/h possible along coastal areas," says Gina Ressler, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.
