Friday, August 25, 2017, 1:08 PM - Police continue to search for eight people following a landslide that prompted the evacuation of an entire Swiss village on Thursday morning.

Rock and debris toppled down the northeast face of Piz Cengalo, a nearly 3700-metre tall mountain on the Swiss-Italian boarder, causing significant damage and prompting 100 people to leave their homes in Bondo, Switzerland.

Graubunden cantonal police report the missing are nationals of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. At least 120 personnel continue to search an area 5 km in radius in Bondo, a community in the Val Bondasca region.

Switzerland's Federal Office of Civil Aviaton employed an airspace barrier around the search area until Monday.

The Val Bondesca area is protected by a debris alarm system, installed after another massive landslide on Piz Cengalo in 2012. The alarm was triggered on Wednesday morning, allowing for prompt evacuation.

Please check back for updates on this developing story.
