Wednesday, September 27, 2017, 9:22 PM - The sweltering furnace that has been the first days of fall in Ontario finally fell to more seasonal conditions Wednesday, courtesy of a cold front sliding through.
The downside was that the intense heat was a fine fuel for thunderstorms, many of which turned severe in eastern Ontario in the waning hours of the afternoon.
The strong storms brought locally intense downpours and extreme winds, toppling trees and damaging homes. Ottawa Hydro said on Twitter that more than 7,000 customers were without power, with restoration efforts expected to last through the night. CTV News reports a 37-year-old woman was struck by a falling tree and rushed to hospital in critical condition.
Below is a selection of tweets showing the power of the storms.
