Saturday, September 15, 2018, 4:38 PM - Florence was a Category 1 hurricane when it roared ashore in North Carolina Friday morning.
Though its winds were considerably down from its peak earlier in the week -- it was downgraded to a tropical storm a few hours after landfall -- its torrential rains, and intense storm surge have caused widespread damage along the towns and cities that dot the coast of the Carolinas.
Aside from the destruction, several fatalities have been reported, and more are likely to be discovered as rescuers penetrate the worst-hit regions.
Below is a selection of what the storm's aftermath looked like Friday.
