PHOTOS: Haboob sends dust spilling over Arizona
Wednesday, July 11, 2018, 11:48 AM - An haboob blasted through parts of Arizona Monday, sending a kilometre-high wall of dust billowing over Interstates 17 and 8 just after 5 p.m.
The haboob, a dusty system that forms on the edge of a thunderstorm, served as the opening act for an evening of hurricane-force wind gusts, hail and rain.
While these systems are common in Arizona in the summer the storms captured the attention of social media, because they were so photogenic.
Here are a few shots that were uploaded to Twitter -- stunning examples of the complexity and beauty that can be found during a destructive summer storm.
