Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 5:50 PM - A mother and daughter being praised by their community after stepping in to help an elderly man who was found walking along a highway Thursday.
Temperatures were freezing at the time and he was not wearing a jacket.
Jamie Watts drove past the disoriented man on U.S. Highway 169 twice. When she spotted him the second time, her instinct told her to step in and help.
She picked up her mother and parked her car before approaching the man.
"And once we got him in the vehicle and started talking with him, we could really tell that there was something wrong with him," Watts told local media.
Watts brought the man to the nearest police station. She had suspected he was intoxicated.
While they waited for police the man handed Watts his wallet, which contained a paper with a phone number and the words "daughter".
They contacted her, and she told the women her father had dementia. Based on where he turned up, she suspects he walked along the highway for more than 30 km without a coat.
Watts says she's glad she trusted her guts and intervened.
