Funnel cloud forms in Nova Scotia

Sunday, August 10, 2014, 11:23 AM - People in Sydney, Nova Scotia were caught by surprise when a funnel cloud formed just near the airport.

Environment Canada issued a statement on Saturday warning that a system in Atlantic Canada was pelting the area with small to medium hail, and showing signs of rotational activity.

Reports of funnel clouds came from the Avalon Peninsula and Cape Breton Island.

Radar scans seem to indicate that the funnel clouds did not extend to the surface, lacking the ground contact that would be necessary for a tornado.

The chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms continues today for Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Thunderstorms should move out of the area on Monday.
