Fall hasn't begun yet, but parts of northern Ontario are already seeing some of the weather extremes that are typical of the season.

A cold Arctic airmass is moving in, sending temperatures plunging.

On Thursday afternoon, Environment Canada issued frost warnings for the Atikokan, Lake Nipigon and Geraldton communities as skies clear and temperatures plunge towards the freezing mark this evening.

"Normal lows for these areas range from 5-10°C, so it's safe to say that Thursday's temperatures will be slightly below seasonal," explains Monica Vaswani, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.

On Wednesday, storms helped to clear the hot and humid conditions felt across southern Ontario earlier this week.

The cold front will sweep across the province, creating cooler conditions for many communities through to Friday.
