Today’s Fashion Forecast takes us to the grassy prairies of Alberta, where the weather in Calgary is expected to hit a high of 26°C (feeling like 30 with humidity) with a chance of thunderstorms.

When facing a day that's being projected as warm and potentially wet, you want a look that is practical but that still goes beyond the casual call of duty. For today’s outfit recommendation, we chose an earthy palette inspired by Calgary’s own beautiful natural phenomena (e.g. the Chinooks, the Aurora lights, and the Bow River) and mixed in some fresh detailing that's sure keep you cool no matter what the temperature is.

Beginning with footwear, we suggest choosing a style that'll keep your feet dry if caught in a sudden deluge—there’s nothing more frustrating than wearing a slippery pair of strappy sandals on a wet day. Rag & Bone’s Newbury leather ankle boots are the quintessential summer bootie—the supple leather means they're office appropriate while their solid construction means you're ready for an afternoon of trekking along a riverside trail.

To complement this rustic motif, pair this pair with a cropped military cargo pant. With their slouchy silhouette and casually gathered cuffs, these Elizabeth and James Textile pants are a contemporary take on the cargo-pant trend. Navy-and-white nautical stripes, like the one on Anthropologie’s Fairfield top, match up perfectly with the muted olive green of the pants. This tee is clean and simple but has unexpected accents, such as a vegan-leather pocket and a sheer buttoned-up back.

And in lieu of toting an umbrella around for a rainstorm that may never happen, we recommend sporting some protective headwear, which can also provide you with shade and shelter. J.Crew’s Panama hat has been a balmy-day staple since President Roosevelt sported the style on his visit to the Panama Canal in 1906.

This kind of tropical accessory looks chicest when worn in tandem with sleek and shiny hardware, such as the set of silver knuckle duster rings by Maison Martin Margiela we’re currently coveting. And of course, we would be remiss to not include some colour in our outfit and we think Butter London’s juicy shade of citrus coral will do the trick nicely.
