Fashion Forecast: Staying chic in winter staples

New Year's resolutions typically inspire us to start something new or to do something better. This sentiment usually filters into our fashion sense as well, although in the midst of winter there is only so much you can do to reinvigorate a wardrobe. That being said, there are a few traditional cold-weather wears that you may not have previously deemed as being chic … until now, that is!
If one of your resolutions happened to be upping your activity levels in 2014, perhaps by, say, skiing, then the ski village in Canmore, Alberta, is an ideal spot for you this weekend! With temperatures reaching lows of -8°C and a few scattered flurries, a bona fide warm jacket is an absolute must. The puffer coat has been experiencing a revival recently, escaping the confines of its typecasting as only being appropriate for the slopes. This cropped bomber style from Coatology checks all the right boxes for the perfect amounts of sporty style and lightweight warmth.
Wear it with some edgy accessories that are still practical, like these biker boots from Asos, which come with thick leather soles and a serrated tread to prevent you from slipping, while still exuding cool with their gold metal detailing. Complement this look with a pair of shearling-lined moto gloves, like these ones from Cynthia Rowley, which conveniently come in a wide range of sumptuously saturated shades.
A circle scarf is another great way to bottle in the heat, as well as adding a nice accent to your outfit indoors. This cashmere scarf from J.Crew is definitely an investment piece and is guaranteed to pay dividends for years to come as you wake up on cold, winter mornings and wrap yourself in its luxurious embrace.
Beanies have obviously made a comeback over the last few seasons, but try shaking things up with a cute and quirky design, like a cat-ear style (wear with some slick aviator shades to make the look a little less cutesy).
And there you have it: a stylish winter ensemble that will keep you warm and toasty no matter how deep the temperature drops!
