An elderly California man survived unscathed after driving his car straight into a swimming pool.

It happened Saturday afternoon in the town of Altadena, according to CBS Los Angeles.

"He told us that his shoe or his sandal got caught in the pedals of the vehicle and drove through the door in the rear part of his garage and into his swimming pool," Capt. Jeffrey Sims,of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

Emergency services were called, but by the time they arrived, the 85-year-old driver had already extricated himself from the vehicle, and apparently declined medical treatment.

The Pasadena Star News reports the man was pulling into his garage when he lost control of the vehicle, which went through a rear garage door directly into the pool, where it ended up completely submerged.
