We thought it was cats that had nine lives, not dogs.

Susie, a four-year-old maltese poodle mix, barely held onto the one she had when she plumetted 14 storeys down a vent shaft.

It seems her owner, Elaine Caralis, was visiting a friend at her 16th storey apartment in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, when her dog wandered into a closet and fell through a pipe (construction was going on in the area at the time).

Incredibly, Susie survived with a few cuts and bruises, but it took firefighters around three hours to cut her out. She was taken to an animal hospital, where she's well on the way to recovery, and should be heading home in a few days.

Florida news station WSVN covered the story. Watch the video above for the full take.
