Tuesday, July 14, 2015, 4:48 PM - Leia the dog is being hailed a hero after helping to save the life of a beached baby porpoise at Criccieth Beach in the UK earlier this month.

Leia's owner had been bass fishing in the area on July 5, when the dog started barking at something further down the beach.

The owner went to investigate and found a young harbour porpoise that had gotten stuck on some rocks.

Leia's owner as able to lift the young porpoise and guide it back out to sea.

"Stayed at the site for while after to make sure he didn't come back," Leia's owner writes on YouTube.

"Spoke to the coastguard once I had signal and they reported it to the science team. Think the little guy was lucky as there was nobody around for miles ... And, if it wasn't for my dog barking at me I would have missed him too!"

Harbour porpoises tend to stay close to coastal areas and can become beached by strong wind currents and rough seas.
