Wednesday, December 20, 2017, 4:33 PM - Doug Musson, the man behind a beloved annual Christmas display in Burlington, Ontario, has died. Musson had been putting up the display for more than 30 years.

The death comes as a shock Musson's family and the community.

Musson, 83, died Monday in the hospital. He fell from his roof while tending to a leak.

"Our family is devastated," reads a statement on the family's website.

"I debated even turning on the lights but decided he would want them on and he worked hard on making all of the displays. This could possibly be the last year we can do the lights."

Two Go Fund Me accounts have been set up to help support the family. One has closed, but the other fundraising account is still accepting donations.

Musson first started decorating his home for the holidays in Calgary, continuing the tradition when he moved to Burlington in 1976.

He made many of the decorations himself and added to the display every year.

Many people took to social media to express their condolences, including Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring.
