Friday, September 26, 2014, 4:12 PM - Conergy has proven that solar power can be beautiful.
The company has announced its plans to build a "one-of-a-kind" solar power plant in New Caledonia, Australia.
The four-hectare area will consist of 7,888 panels that will supply electricity to 750 homes.
That's news in itself -- but the design of the site is what's attracting headlines.
When the plant is completed early next year, it will look like a giant heart when viewed from above.

Dubbed the "Heart of New Caledonia", the plan will save an "estimated two million tonnes of carbon dioxide over its projected 25-year lifetime, compared with power from fuel oil, gas oil and coal, which generate the majority of the islands’ power today," Conergy says.
The project was commissioned by a local soda plant, and it was inspired by the nearby ‘Coeur de Voh’, a forest that has naturally grown into the shape of a heart.
