Dog may be man's best friend, but at least for one dog in Wellesley, Massachusetts the opposite is true as well.

A five year-old golden retriever named Crosby fell into the Charles River after the thin ice it was walking over gave in. The animal was trapped 46 meters offshore.

A 911 call was placed a little after 1 p.m. after Crosby's owner spotted the dog falling through the ice.

The rescue took nearly twenty minutes and officials were forced to use cold water survival suits. The dog was visibly shaken from the experience, but is expected to make a full recovery.

The rescuers say they didn't think twice about jumping into the river to save the dog. One rescuer explained that a life is a life.

It is an attitude that Crosby's owners are grateful for, thanking officials for their own Christmas miracle.
