Saturday, February 24, 2018, 6:28 PM - Winter isn't ready to give up its hold on B.C.'s South Coast.

Snowfall warnings were again in effect Saturday for parts of the interior, including the Fraser Valley, Fraser Canyon, Nicola and Similkameen, with 15 to 20 cm expected before snow tapers off on Sunday.

This comes after a snowy Friday across the Lower Mainland that resulted in multiple accidents, travel delays and flight cancellations.

RECAP: Friday snow story in southern British Columbia

Unofficial totals approaching 30 cm have been reported in Coquitlam and Deep Cove, North Vancouver.

TIMING

  • New wave of wintry mix moves in by late Saturday evening, continuing through Sunday
  • Lower elevations (below 200 m) to receive rain, with 5-15 mm at most
  • Rain eases for Metro Van area by afternoon
  • Higher elevations to receive additional snowfall in 5 to 10 cm range
  • Snow expected to continue through Sunday afternoon for Fraser Valley, north Vancouver Island, and along north coast
  • Freezing levels rising to around 1000 m overnight Saturday into Sunday

The Lower Mainland will see a break from the precipitation late Sunday. However, it appears most of next week will remain unsettled.

"A couple of systems for the middle and end of next week, but tracks come from the northwest, so we don't expect them to be moisture-laden for the south coast," says The Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham. "Temperatures remain mostly cooler than seasonal until late next week."

Check back for updates as we continue to monitor the forecast.
