"Total rainfall amounts near 75 mm are forecast for Kitimat and Stewart through this afternoon," says Environment Canada in the warning issued early Monday. "Rain at times heavy is expected this morning as a cold front sweeps down the coast."
According to EC, localized flooding in low-lying areas is not out of the question with the risk for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
The heaviest rain will begn to move out late Monday, while much of the South Coast remains dry through the week.
"The warmest day of the week for the South Coast will be on Monday, with patchy fog to start the day," says Weather Network meteorologist Erin Wenckstern. "The cold front dropping down from the north will bring a slight chance for showers and increasing cloud cover through the day."
High pressure builds in Tuesday through Thursday before a potent upper level low moves its way in for the weekend.
"Likely the coolest air of the season will plant itself over B.C., which will lead to rain, cloudy skies and snow levels dropping to around 1500 metres," Wenckstern says.
