Boston Mayor tells residents to stop jumping out of their windows into snow banks

Tuesday, February 17, 2015, 3:57 PM - On Monday Boston Mayor Marty Walsh issued a plea, asking residents to stop leaping from their windows into snow banks.

Apparently, the trend is catching on as weather-weary Bostonians contend with cabin fever.

“It’s a foolish thing to do and you could kill yourself,” Mayor Marty Walsh said in a speech, according to the Boston Herald.

Walsh said the practice is exceptionally dangerous given that crews are trying to remove snow from the streets.

Unfortunately, the Mayor's speech may have done more harm than good.

According to The Huffington Post, some snowed-in residents said they weren't aware of the trend until they'd heard the mayor's speech, and now they intend to try it.

Still, officials are quick to point out that jumping out of a window can be life-threatening. Experts say the snow could be concealing ice or rocks, among other things.
