Beautiful Canadian beaches

On Twitter I recently asked my followers to name their favourite beach in Canada, and I was flooded with more responses than I have ever seen for any question, picture or observation that I have posted.

Being a self-confessed #SummerLover, I was keen on knowing where everyone spends their dog days of summer.

Your responses have opened my eyes to some amazing beaches that  should not be missed across the country.

Here were a few of your most popular responses:

Grand Beach, Manitoba

Grand Beach is described by Manitoba’s government website as “dunes 12 metres high and kilometres of inviting warm sand beach receive the gentle waves of the great prairie sea.” 

Sounds heavenly to me.

It’s located on Lake Winnipeg which - cool fact alert - is the sixth largest lake in Canada.

Sandbanks, Ontario

This is a spot I’ve been to myself, and it is pretty spectacular. It’s located on Lake Ontario in Prince Edward County. It has stunning sand dunes and from my memory the quality was pristine. 

Its claim to fame is that it has the world’s largest fresh water sand bar and dune system.

Basin Head, PEI

I’ve been intrigued by this beach ever since I first heard about it years ago. It's known as the ‘singing sands’ beach because the sand apparently, well…sings.

Although there appears to be no exact reason as to why the sand makes this interesting sound when you walk through it, one theory is that it may be caused by quartz sand. 

Another big draw is that it has more than 800 kilometres of the warmest beaches north of the Carolinas.

Wreck Beach, BC

If you’re from Vancouver, or ever visited the city then perhaps you have heard been to Wreck Beach. The beaches’ website boasts that it as “an internationally-acclaimed 7.8 km long clothing-optional Beach located in Vancouver, BC, Canada, making it North America's largest Naturist beach.”

It’s conveniently located just 15 minutes from metro Vancouver, but finding the beach can be a bit tricky as you need to take some steep trails down to the beach that’s at the base of a cliff. The beach is known for its hippy, natural vibe as well as an annual Bare Buns Run!
