The National Zoo in Washington welcomed four new lion cubs this week.

In the video above, you can see the proud mom, nine-year-old African lion 'Shera,' and her four newborn baby cubs.

The cubs were born Sunday. This is Shera's second litter.

Officials say the births help get the zoo closer to its goal of building a "pride" -- the social structure in which lions live in the wild.

If the cubs continue to thrive, they should be on display to the public sometime this summer.
