Saturday, November 17, 2018, 12:10 PM - After a week filled with a weather bomb and the largest waves on the planet, Friday rounded things out with another strong system sweeping into the region, with effects lingering into the weekend for some.

Stay on top of active weather: Alerts and warnings

LINGERING SNOW IN NEWFOUNDLAND

After dumping more than 20 cm of snow on parts of New Brunswick, and bringing strong winds to much of the rest of the Maritimes, the system has largely ceased impacting that region, and its remnants are a Newfoundland story Saturday.

It is there that some snowfall and wind warnings were lingering Saturday morning, with a few flakes yet to fall before tapering off in the afternoon, heaviest along the province's north shore, where up to 20-25 cm is expected to have fallen by the time things wind down.

Strong winds are also set to linger, with some wind warnings still in effect for some areas, again largely in the north, though including the Burin Peninsula, and parts of the Avalon.

"Strong westerly winds gusting up to 100 km/h are forecast to continue throughout the afternoon. Winds will diminish below warning criteria this evening," Environment Canada says.

RELENTLESS STORM TRACK

Atlantic Canada will continue to be the focus of the active weather through next week with a couple more systems expected.

"It's too early to pinpoint exact timing and impacts, but the systems for next week should be more typical late fall systems and NOT damaging wind events," says Gillham. "Colder than seasonal temperatures will also dominate next week."
