Powerful winds postpone St. John's Santa Claus Parade
Meteorologist
Sunday, November 26, 2017, 9:01 AM - Powerful winds, rain and wet snow are expected for Atlantic Canada into Monday.
The Downtown St. John's Parade, previously scheduled for Nov. 26, was postponed until Dec. 3 due to rain and gusty winds. With the storm strengthening as it approaches the Gulf of the St. Lawrence, gusty winds are expected Sunday evening into Monday for Newfoundland. The strongest winds, up to 100 km/h, will be along the Avalon and south shore on Sunday evening.
A cold front will start to move through the region by late morning, and temperature will drop through the afternoon in Nova Scotia, where some light mixing is possible for Sunday evening as temperatures drop below freezing.
Newfoundland's south shore will see 20 mm of rainfall through Monday night, before a second round for the east. The southern Maritimes will not completely miss the rain, but will see just 5 mm as they are grazed by the backside of the system.

A clipper moving through the region will draw additional moisture from Newfoundland's system and bring around 15-30 for northern Labrador and inland Newfoundland.
As this system departs, northwesterly winds will deliver yet another shot of Arctic air, as the late November temperature roller coaster continues. As skies clear to start the next work week, many locations will be stuck in negative territory through the day.
