Arctic air brings messy weather to the Prairies this weekend
Wednesday, November 5, 2014, 9:15 AM - If you have plans for the weekend, you might want to include a winter coat.
Cold arctic air will blow into the Prairies Saturday night and into Sunday morning. This will happen at the same time as a low pressure system moves in from the Rockies. As these two systems meet on Sunday, the central Prairies and across the foothill could see some accumulating snowfall while the southern portion of the Prairies could wake up Sunday morning to find a light dusting.
DON'T MISS: Morning briefing: Another stormy weekend
The key to the storm is the northern air coming in.
"Without the cold air we'd be looking at a rain event," said Matt Grinter, meteorologist at The Weather Network.
The system won't stick around for long. It will continue its southeastern tracking and head out of the Prairies by Sunday night.
Places like Edmonton have some cold temperatures in their forecast for Sunday. Expect a low of -5 for Sunday night—and that could get even chillier with passing days.
