Intense, 20 cm snowfalls in parts of East Coast

People in Moncton are digging out Sunday after being buried in some 20 cm of snow overnight. The city happened to be in the path of a narrow band of snow streaming inward from the sea at rates of 5 cm per hour.
Sea-effect snow squalls continue Sunday, cutting through Nova Scotia's Cumberland and Colchester counties, as well as parts of Cape Breton, including Sydney, with local amounts exceeding 5 cm possible.

A low pressure system off southern Newfoundland will continue to bring a rain/snow mix to the Avalon and eastern parts of the island Sunday, with a chance of passing snow showers producing limited accumulations.
Though weekend temperatures are expected to remain seasonal, below-seasonal temperatures move in beginning Monday, continuing through the middle of the week.
Longer range, the region sees a break from active weather, though with localized sea-effect snow in some areas. Forecasters are eyeing a system set to impact Atlantic Canada late week, lingering into the weekend, with the threat for heavy snow and strong winds.
