Monday, December 28, 2015, 9:00 PM - A mammoth storm system in the U.S. has brought an extensive mix of weather from tornadoes and severe flooding to freezing rain and blizzards.

At least 11 people were killed and hundreds of buildings destroyed after several tornadoes ripped through the Dallas area, The National Weather Service confirmed Sunday. Meanwhile, the Texas panhandle battled with 3-metre high snowdrifts on the roads.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared disaster in four Dallas-area counties Sunday due to the severe weather. At least 51 tornadoes have been reported since December 23; two of which were EF-4, the second highest classification of twisters with winds stronger than 320 km/h.

Areas from Texas north to Michigan were under winter storm warnings, while about nine states further east were on alert for flash floods, which have killed over 10 residents in Missouri and Illinois.

Here are 14 shocking photos that show the storm system's devastating impact.
